Can you really repair a modern electric car battery, or does one broken component mean the entire battery is destined for the scrapheap?

I bought this enormous 600kg battery from a written-off Ford Mustang Mach-E. Inside are 108 LFP cells, nearly 80kWh of energy, and potentially years of useful life remaining.

But there was a problem. One of the main high-voltage connectors had been badly damaged, leaving the battery unusable.

Rather than throwing away an otherwise promising battery, I decided to investigate whether it could be repaired.

In this video, we take a look inside the battery, investigate how modern EV batteries are constructed, track down replacement components and discover what Ford actually charges for individual battery parts.

And with a replacement component costing around £10, can we really save a battery worth thousands?

There's just one problem. Repairing the physical damage doesn't necessarily mean the battery will work!
