Gold placer sources

Many gold veins lack significant value. Learn why most deposits are uneconomical to mine and how to evaluate your findings.

Understanding the geology of gold veins is critical for any serious prospector. While it is common to find quartz structures in the field, the reality is that the vast majority of these systems are barren of precious metal. This video explains why even when you locate a vein, the distribution of gold is often too sparse to justify the cost of extraction.

We examine the characteristics of gold deposits to help you distinguish between promising geological features and those that are essentially empty. By recognizing that ninety-nine percent of a vein may contain no value, you can save time and focus on identifying the rare, rich spots that actually matter for successful ore formation. For those looking to deepen their knowledge, my book Fists Full Of Gold covers these fundamental skills in greater detail.
